Physics Department General Education Recognition Standards (Revised June 9, 2025) & NCKU General Education Elective Regulations

(Revised on June 9, 2025)
Department of Physics (Five Domains of General Education): The non-recognition principles are as follows:
(1) General education courses with course names or course syllabi identical or substantially similar to those offered by the Department/Graduate Institute of Physics will NOT be recognized.
(2) Among the five domains: Courses in the Natural and Engineering Sciences category that are identical, similar, or simpler than our department's foundational physics courses, or courses whose syllabi explicitly state they are offered for "non-Science and Engineering" majors (e.g., "This course is a general education science exploration course offered for students in the College of Liberal Arts, College of Social Sciences, College of Management, and College of Planning and Design") > STEM students should NOT enroll in these courses (e.g., Prof. Hsu's: A9_Applied Physics and Experiments), which will NOT be recognized. (Our department has required courses: Physics Laboratory (I)~(IV)).
Repealed original 2022.3.3 regulation: General education courses taught by "faculty members" of the Department/Graduate Institute of Physics will not be recognized as general education credits. For example: RECOGNIZED — Technology and Life Values (taught by Prof. Chang of the Physics Department) _ A9_"Interdisciplinary Integration" category _ General Education credit.

NCKU Department of Physics _ General Education Credit Regulations _ Based on NCKU Center for General Education Regulations: (Please note: Regulations vary depending on the year of admission)

**Effective starting from the 2025–2026 Academic Year (114 Academic Year): (Key revised points highlighted for students~)
(II) Students may apply to have courses taken in other departments recognized as General Education credits, subject to approval by their home department and the Center for General Education. Applications must be submitted from the week following the course drop deadline of that semester until the end of the semester. Late applications will be handled as follows:
1. Starting from their fourth (senior) year, students may retroactively apply for General Education credit recognition for courses taken in other departments during their studies, or transfer previously recognized General Education credits back.
2. System application opening periods will be announced separately by the Center for General Education each semester.
3. Each completed retroactive application or transfer-back process will count as 1 successful change, with a maximum limit of 3 successful changes.
