[Update Notice – October 3, 2025] Please review the details below.

<Updated Announcement: Oct. 3, 2025>

According to the original regulations (activities designated by the Department), the Curriculum Committee is requested to approve the following arrangement, under which the Department Chair may assist students in applying for Service Learning credit waiver/substitution.
(Applicable only to Academic Years 2025–2026 and 2026–2027.)
Required documents:
(1) The original Department Appendix IV roster (service hours record form; available from the Department Student Association)
+(2) NCKU “Volunteer Service Credit Waiver Application Form” and “Service Learning Reflection Report”

Submission period:Before the end of each semester. Documents shall be submitted collectively by the Department Student Association to the department office twice per year:
July 15 and January 15. The materials shall be compiled by the Student Association President of the corresponding academic year and reviewed/signed by at least four Student Association officers in accordance with the original regulations.

Review procedure:
Department Office preliminary review of eligibility→ approval by the Department Chair→ review by the Registration Division→ completion of the Service Learning (III) credit waiver application.

In addition, there are still sophomore to seventh-year students who have not yet completed Service Learning (I)–(III). These students shall continue to follow the original transitional measures for Service Learning credit waiver/substitution.
(Please refer to the university’s five approved methods and related forms announced on Jan. 23, 2025.)
It is recommended that Academic Years 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 be designated as the transitional period for the Department.
(Transition period ends on Jan. 31, 2027, i.e., the end of the second semester of AY 2026–2027.)

Sophomore to sixth-year students may still register through the Department Student Association to participate in departmental activities. (Eligible activities remain subject to the previous regulations established by the Student Association.) After accumulating 18 hours of service, students may apply for a waiver/substitution of Service Learning (III) in accordance with the above procedures.
Students admitted prior to Academic Year 2025 must complete the compulsory 0-credit Service Learning (I)–(III) graduation requirements no later than Jan. 31, 2027.

[Announcement – Jan 23, 2025]

Starting from the 2025–2026 academic year (114th Academic Year), the Service Learning (I)–(III) graduation requirement will be officially abolished for incoming freshmen. However, students enrolled in or prior to the 2024–2026 academic year (113th Academic Year and earlier) must still complete the required 0-credit Service Learning (I)–(III) courses to fulfill their graduation requirements. (Please review the following details carefully.)

During this transition period, the following measures are recommended. Meanwhile, effective from the 2025–2026 academic year, the "NCKU Department of Physics Implementation Guidelines for Service Learning (I), (II), and (III)" (approved by the Department Curriculum Committee on April 10, 2023) will be officially repealed. (Note: These guidelines remain valid through the Spring 2025 / 113-2 semester).

1. Policy Overview
