Minor and Double Major
(Physics students applying for a Minor/Double Major in another department should refer to that department's regulations.)
Credit Requirements and Curriculum Plan for Minors and Double Majors in Physics (Students from other departments applying around mid-July of each academic year, please read the following regulations carefully.)
- For a Minor in Physics, students must select 20 credits from the required courses listed in the table below.
- For a Double Major in Physics, students must select 38 credits from the required courses listed in the table below, plus 2 credits of recommended elective courses offered by the Department of Physics.
- Graduating students completing their degree audit must bring their official transcript for graduation eligibility to the Physics Department Office to verify and approve their Physics Minor/Double Major credits.
- Courses not listed in the table below and not prior approved by the Department of Physics—regardless of whether they are offered by the department—will NOT be counted toward Minor or Double Major credits.

- Double Major:

- Recommended elective courses are as follows: Physical Mathematics (III), Physical Mathematics (IV), Introduction to Statistical Mechanics, Modern Optics, or other courses prior approved by the Department of Physics.

- If any course listed above covers content similar to a required course in the student's primary major, please prepare the syllabus of the course from the primary major. Upon review and approval by the Department of Physics, the student may take the following recommended courses to fulfill the remaining credits: Physical Mathematics (III), Physical Mathematics (IV), Introduction to Statistical Mechanics, Modern Optics. Any other course must be prior approved by the Department Chair (Curriculum Committee).
