Department of Physics (Five Domains of General Education planned by the university): The following will NOT be recognized:
(1) General education courses with course names or syllabi identical or similar to those offered by the Physics Department/Graduate Institute. Not recognized.
(2) Among the five domains: Courses in the "Natural and Engineering Sciences" category that are similar to or simpler than the department's foundational physics courses (e.g., Prof. Hsu's: A9_Applied Physics and Experiments) are NOT recognized. (The department has required courses: Physics Laboratory (I)~(IV)).
(e.g., Single Variable Differential Calculus and Single Variable Integral Calculus are NOT recognized. Science and Engineering majors have required Calculus (I)(II); these courses are also recommended for "non-Science and Engineering" students).
Repealed original regulation: General education courses taught by "faculty members" of the Physics Department/Graduate Institute will not be recognized as general education credits. (e.g., Recognized: Technology and Life Values (taught by Prof. Chang of the Physics Department) _ A9_"Interdisciplinary Integration" category _ General Education credit).

The category that students most commonly have doubts about is Natural and Engineering Sciences. Because they are similar/related to the department's courses but simpler in content, they are deemed unapproved general education credits by the department. If you have any doubts, please visit the department office or email us to clarify, so as not to affect your graduation eligibility.
