SpecialityQuantum transport theory, graphene, solid state physics, mesoscopic physics, numerical simulation
Born in Gangshan district of Kaohsiung, a native PhD who made up his mind to become a theoretical physicist during high school. Professor Liu obtained his PhD from National Taiwan University in 2008, completed the compulsory military service in 2009, and went to Germany for postdoctoral research, which unexpectedly last for more than 6 years. In 2017, he returned to Taiwan and became an assistant professor in Department of Physics, National Cheng Kung University, which was a dream-come-true that took him about 20 years. Since he joined NCKU Physics, he has taught Geneneral Physics, Solid-State Physics, and Semiconductor Physics. His research interest and expertise lie on the theory and numerical simulations of quantum electronic transport, focusing particularly on graphene-related materials in recent years. Due to his background, experience, and interest, he can speak native Taiwanese, fluent English, and basic German (B1), in addition to Mandarin Chinese - the official language in Taiwan. His style of supervising students, he believes, is to provide appropriate and effient guides, while keeping sufficient freedom for students to explore at the same time. Due to his inability in pressing students, the style may fit better only those who are highly motivated and self-disciplined. Students who are lack of their own thoughts, goals, and motivation will find it difficult to succeed in the group. Professor Liu was a football (American soccer) player during his studies. He played in the university football teams during his bachelor, master, and PhD (captained 2003-2004), winning several titles from the University Championships of Taiwan. His wife was his classmate during their bachelor but unfortunately dislikes or even hates physics. Convincing his wife to listen to his new ideas or understandings is perhaps the hardest training in improving his presentation and teaching skills. In addition to latest news in physics, he also pays attention to politics (important public issues) and football. His hobbies include football, beer, and heavy metal. He is a supporter of FC Barcelona and Argentina FA.
